What's Your Secret?

We all have secrets. Some are bigger, some are smaller, but they are always there.
How many of us carry a secret which we've never told anyone? Wouldn't it be great to let the secret out and unload the burden?

This is what PostSecret is for. PostSecret is an ongoing mail art community, in which people all over the world decorate a personal postcard and write their secret on it. The secret then is being sent by mail to Frank Warren, the founder of PostSecret, and being published on the post secret website or in postsecret books or museum exhibitions.

There are no rules for the secrets on the postcards, except for that they have to be genuine and have to be something that was never shared before.
The PostSecret site has started as an experiment on Blogger on 2005. Every Sunday 10 new secrets which demonstrate different artistic and verbal styles were uploaded to the site. In 2007 the PostSecret community was launched, allowing people to share more secrets and discuss the postcards on the website.

PostSecrets' postcards vary from secrets about achievements and desires to secrets about faith and death, some are light and even amusing, and some might make you want to look away or call for help. I think this is what makes postsecret such a success, and this is why it's so important.

It lets people the ability to share something without fearing for their privacy (although many secrets carry an apologetic message to the mailman...) and can liberate them mentally and spiritually.

The website updates every Sunday with new secrets, you should really check it out!

  3. Nice writing! It sounds interesting, but "secrets don't make friends"-Secondborn. So I don't think I'll use it though.

  4. I wonder if the website can be used for teaching English or some secrets may be a bit too saucy

    1. Oh no, it can't be used in class. It's way too saucy, in terms of graphics and content.
